Due to cold temperatures, Astoria Schools will have an e-learning day for Tuesday, January 21. Junior High and High School students, contact your teachers via e-mail. K-5 students will work on their e-learning packets at home.
Notice sent to the students:
The Astoria School board made the decision to install vape detecting sensors within the building. Starting today, January 16, the detectors will be turned on. These are very sensitive detectors and if they record a change in the air quality around their location, they will send an alert to administrators in the building instantly. As you are aware, we have many cameras in the building to ensure the safety of the building, these cameras will also be used to locate students who are suspected of using a vaping device.
Consequences are as follows for being caught with or using a vaping device:
1st offense- 3 day in school suspension
2nd offense- 3 day out of school suspension
3rd offense- expulsion from Astoria Schools or a change of educational placement away from Astoria schools.
These consequences are cumulative over your junior high and high school years.
I would remind each of you that vaping or possessing a vaping device at your age is illegal. More importantly, nobody knows or can predict the dangerous impact vaping can have on any one individual’s long- or short-term health. Please make good decisions and do not vape as there will be harmful consequences.
